James A. Crawford's Move to Texas

James A. Crawford, who is right
close to the oldest settler of Gentry
county, is preparing to remove
from the county and take up his
residence with his son in Texas.

He had bills printed at this office
announcing that he would make a
public sale and also informs us
that he has a buyer for his farm.
Since the loss of his wife some
weeks ago, he has concluded to
quit the old homestead forever.
he is in his 84th year, but his gen-
eral health is still fair. Mr. Craw-
ford came to this county as early
as the year 1838. There were, he
says, less than fifty people living
in the county then. He went back
to his old home in Indiana, but in
1841 returned to Gentry and has
resided here practically ever since.
He started the first blacksmithing
shop in the county, at Gentryville,
but soon afterwards went to farm-
ing, and for half a century has
lived on his present farm, 8 miles
south of Albany. His neighbors
and friends hope that he may en-
joy good health in his new home,
and that his life may be spared
many more years.
