Elusive David Hall Family

Jane Crawford, daughter of James and Rebecca (Anderson) Crawford married David Hall. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find much information on David and Jane Hall.

David Hall¹ lived in Jefferson, Indiana, United States in 1820.²

He filed land entry papers for land being the East half of the Southwest quarter of section 25 Township 10 of Range 5 containing 80 acres on 24 Apr 1820 in Indiana, United States.³

He  purchased land being lot 104 in Columbus in 1823 in Bartholomew, Indiana, United States.⁴

David  purchased land being lot 63 in Columbus in 1823 in Bartholomew, Indiana, United States.⁵

He filed land entry papers for land being the West half of the Southwest quarter of Section 25 Township 10 of Range 5 containing 80 acres on 1 Jan 1823 in Indiana, United States.⁶

David Hall of Dearborn County, Indiana made full payment for the south West quarter of the North East quarter of Section seventeen in township six of Range two West in the District of lands subject to sale at Cincinnati, Ohio (lying in Indiana) containing 40 acres on 7 Nov 1837 in Cincinnati, Hamilton, Ohio, United States.⁷

David sold land being lot number 104 in Columbus on 1 Dec 1838 in Bartholomew, Indiana, United States.⁸

He sold land land being lot number 63 in Columbus on 2 Oct 1839 in Bartholomew, Indiana, United States.⁹

David Hall and Jane Crawford¹⁰ were married on 5 Jan 1814 in Jefferson, Indiana, United States.^1,11–17

Jane Crawford, daughter of James Crawford and Rebecca Anderson, was born about 1796.

She was the child of James Crawford and Rebecca Anderson.¹⁶

She was also known as Jane Hall on 5 Jan 1814.¹

This Indenture made this second day of October in the year of Our Lord
one thousand eight hundred and thirty nine between David Hall & Jane Hall his wife
of the County of Bartholomew and State of Indiana of the first part and William
Mounts of the County and State aforesaid of the second part witnesseth that the
said party of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of twenty dollars
to them in hand paid by the said party of the second part The receipt whereof is
hereby acknowledged have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do
grant bargain and sell unto the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns
forever the following described tract or lot of Land situate lying and being in
the town of Columbus and state aforesaid and being known and designated in the

agent for the county of Bartholomew in the state of Indiana for and
in consideration dollars to me in hand before the ensealing have
by David Hall the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge
have in my capacity of agent as aforesaid and for and in
behalf of the sd county of Bartholomew granted bargained
sold and conveyed and by these presents do grant bargain
sell and convey unto the said David Hall his heirs and as-
signs forever the following described tract parcel or lot
of land situated in the town of Columbus in said county
of Bartholomew known and designated on the plat of said
town by number one hundred and four containing seventy
five feet front and one hundred and fifty back contain-
int eleven thousand two hundred and fifty square feet to have
and to hold the said tract or lot of land with all its appurte

Missing Child

Do you ever feel like you are going in circles when it comes to records? That's how I'm feeling with my research of Isaac Crawford whom I believe to be the son of James and Rebecca (Anderson) Crawford.

I recently found an obituary for George Whitley Crawford who died in 1889 in Gentry County, Missouri. According to the obituary in the 20 Sept 1889 issue of the Albany Ledger of Albany Missouri, George was born in Bartholomew County, Indiana.

The biography of George W. Crawford, found on page 421 of The History of Gentry and Worth Counties, Missouri (St. Joseph, Missouri: National Historical Co., 1882), provides some more information about George's early life.

Mr. Crawford the son of Isaac and Nancy (Miller) Crawford, both Kentuckians by birth.
During his infancy his parents died, and he was reared by his grand
parents. At the age of two years he was taken to Garrard County, Ken-
tucky, where he remained until ten years of age. In 1833, he moved
to Clay County, Missouri, continuing to reside there until about the year
1838, when he came to Gentry County.

Sudden Death of Geo. W. Crawford
At his home near Gentryville, on
Tuesday night, September 17th, Geo.
W. Crawford died suddenly. He ate
a hearty supper and went to be feel-
ing as well as usual. The next morn-
ing he was cold in death, and it is sup-
posed he died of heart disease.

Have you ever just stumbled across something that others may seem minor when it provides major clues. That's what happened yesterday when I did a simple Google search for 'Isaac Crawford Nancy Miller'.

That search led to a biography of George W. Crawford of Gentry County, Missouri in the book, The History of Gentry and Worth Counties, Missouri on page 421.
