Why Not Indexed

I've been watching my Blogger stats and have noticed that Google is not listed as a referring site. Thus, I began to wonder why. I've been thru the settings and Google's Search Console and I haven't found an answer.

So, I'm going to document what I see and then reach out for help.

This morning, I tried a Google search for 'briles pauline'.

I knew I had several posts on my Wordpress blog about her and that I had re-posted at least one of those posts on my Blogger blog.

My Wordpress blogpost was listed towards the middle of the first screen of results from my Google search.

However, I didn't find my Blogger post on the first 3 screens of results.

I then opened Google's Search Console for my Blogger site. I found 62 excluded pages when I looked at the coverage.

When I click on the 62 excluded box, the details screen opens up.

I clicked on each of the 'reasons' for exclusions and did not find my Pauline Briles post. However, I did find that some of the URLs for my labels are listed as being blocked by the robots.txt file.

Then, I checked the 'Valid' pages to discover that they were categorized as 'Indexed, Not Submitted in Site Map'

Again the link for my Pauline Briles post wasn't listed. I then did a URL search for the link to that blog post. I discovered that the post has been indexed but it isn't on Google.

When I scrolled down to look and the Indexing information, there is a N/A after Indexing Allowed.

At the very bottom of the box are two links: Learn More and Open Report. When I opened the report, I found that the status was "Excluded".

Since there was a link to 'Request Indexing', I clicked on it.

The test of the page was successful and the URL was submitted for indexing.

Since I had to request indexing for the individual blog post, I was curious about the site. When I submitted the URL to my Blogger site. it passed inspection: On Google, Submitted and Indexed and Mobile Friendly.

So, I have several unanswered questions:

  • Why aren't individual blog posts getting indexed?
  • Do I have to manually submit each blog post for indexing?
  • Why are my labels being blocked by a robots.txt file, when that is not turned on in the Blogger settings?

  1. Marcia,

I don't know any of these screens, they don't look like what I see on the back side of Blogger.

Here is a link to a screen capture from Blogger

Google is the top feed into my blog. I have two blogs and Google is tops on both.

  2. Marcia,

Actually, I MAY have found the problem for you.

Again, go to the back side of Blogger and check your settings

  3. Thanks, Russ!

I checked those settings in Blogger and my Privacy settings matched yours.
The screens in the blog post are from my Google Search Console.

I had a robots.txt file earlier in the week. However, today, that setting is disabled.

The post I submitted for indexing (Pauline Briles) is now in search results. However, a post from earlier this week (proof argument) is not coming up.

It appears that I can manually submit the posts, but I'd like to figure out why they aren't being indexed in the first place.

Again, THANKS for looking at this and providing your input!
