Moving Day Part 2

Have you ever tried to copy a web site from one hosting service to another? If so, then you understand the desire to have an 'EASY' button. Without such an 'Easy' button, tedious time is needed to copy/paste the information and then clean up the HTML.

That's where I was when considering moving my WordPress content to Blogger. I needed an 'EASY' button. After all, shouldn't I be able to EXPORT from WordPress and IMPORT into Blogger? That should be easy enough, right?

I found the EXPORT link in WordPress setting when I opened SETTINGS and scrolled down.

Then, I could select to export the Content and/or the Media.

I could elect to export ALL of the content or click on the down arrow and SELECT what content to export. I had several attempts before I got everything to work, but I ultimately used 'Export All'.

When I checked my email, I found a message containing the link to download my content.

However, this file would not IMPORT into Blogger. A Google search revealed that the file needed converted, but most links to a converter were broken. Last night, I looked for Blogger help and found the Blogger Forum. I was here that I found a link to a working WordPress converter.

Since my downloaded XML file wasn't overly big, I skipped the step about splitting and just Chose my file and clicked Convert. When it was finished, I was ready to try importing again.

One of the forum posts recommended using Chrome incognito.

So, I went 'incognito' to go to my Blogger settings. The import option is in the OTHER section of the settings.

When I clicked on Import Content, there was the option to UNCHECK the ability to automatically publish. Since this was also recommended by the forum, I unchecked that option.

When I worked my way thru verifying that I wasn't a robot and selecting my file, the IMPORT worked! All of my WordPress blog posts are now in Blogger. They aren't published, but the content is there.
