Have you ever found something extremely beneficial via Google but have no idea how you knew to search for it? That was my case today as I learned to use a 'Jump Break'.
I wanted to make my blog look similar to the 'Cleator' template where only part of each post appears on the front page. The partial post contains a 'Read More' link at the bottom taking the reader to the entier post.
Since I have some long posts, figuring this out would change the looks of my blog. I have no idea where I read the term, but I did a Google search for 'Blogger insert jump break'.
That led me to 'How to Add a Jump Break in Blogger' in Anshul's Blog.
The task is so simple, I'm surprised I didn't know about it. There is an icon on the Blogger tool bar to 'Insert Jump Break'
Clicking that icon inserts the Jump Break. Thus, the difficult part is figuring out how much of the blog post to display on the opening page. Once I identify where I want the break, I simply put the cursor there and click the icon.
It will simply look like a grey line in my editing screen. However, once posted, this command will display everything above that line with a 'Read More' link to take the reader to the entire blog.
If I was truly trying to mimic the template, I would be using relatively short snippets of a blog post. However, most of my posts require a bit more to know what the post is about. Thus, my snippets likely aren't as short as they should be.
This has been a fun learning experience!
