This Indenture made this twentieth day of October in the year
of our lord one thousand eight hundred & twenty between John
Vawter and Polly his wife of Jennings county Indiana of the first part
and James Crawford of the County of Jefferson and state of Indiana of the
second part witnesseth, that the parties of the first part for and in consideration
of the sum of two dollars currant money to them in hand paid by the party
of the second part the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have granted
bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell
to the party of the second part his heirs and assigns forever [Ono] in lot in the
town of Vernon and County of Jennings known on the plat thereof as of
Record number eighty three the same having been transferred to
him by David McClure one of the proprietors of the town of Vernon
and situate on Washington Street and containing eight thousand
seven hundred and twelve square feet to have and to hold with all
the rights priviledges and appurtenances thereunto belonging to the
party of the second part his heirs and assigns forever and the parties
of the first part for their heirs covenant and agree with the
party of the second part his heirs & the aforesaid lot of land
to warrant and forever defend from the claim of all manner of persons whatsoever
unto the party of the second part his heirs and assigns to their only proper un
benefit and behoof forever In testimony whereof the said John Vawter and
Polly his wife of the first part have hereunto set their hands and seals at
Vernon the day & year above written

Before me Achilles Vawter, a Justice of the peace within
and for the county aforesaid personally came John Vawter and Polly his
wife the above named grantors (the said Polly being examined separate and
apart from her husband and declaring herself under no compulsion or coer
cion) and acknowledges the above deed of conveyance to be their voluntary
act and deed for the [uns] and purposes therein contained witness my
hand & seal this first day of November eighteen hundred & twenty
