Crawford ThruLInes Question

I like Ancestry's new ThruLines feature!

Unfortunately, it is pointing out one of my frustrations with my DNA results. I have several verified second and third cousin DNA matches on my Crawford line but we never got a DNA circle for my 3rd great grandfather, Nelson G. Crawford. When Ancestry released ThruLines, I was hoping to locate some fourth cousins thru one of Nelson's other children.

However, the ThruLines for Nelson G Crawford only includes DNA matches going thru my 2nd great grandfather, Washington Marion Crawford. It does not include any lines going thru the siblings of Washington Marion Crawford.

1)  It's story time - tell us how you met your spouse or significant other.  If you don't have one, tell us about how your parents met each other.

It's the spring of 1971 and I'm a freshman at Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia. I've just started my new job as an assistant in the chemistry department. I worked two afternoons a week - Tuesdays and Thursday - in the storeroom. It was my job to check out and then check in glassware, thermometers and other supplies to the chemistry students. Most of my 'customers' were in Chemistry I or II students. Since dress codes for my sorority were still enforce, I was not only one of the few females working in the department, but I was the only one in a skirt. 

Moving to Indiana

One of the challenges in genealogy is proving that a person in one location is the same person in another place and time. I often turn to land records to help make that connection. Thus, finding a land patent for Indiana land indicating that James Crawford came from Garrard County, Kentucky is 'genealogy gold'.

Will of David Crawford

One of the suggestions for breaking down a brick wall is to go back thru one's previous research. I can't say that I've broken thru my brick wall, but I can say that this review process is helping me learn about other Crawford families in the area.

So, last night, I continued the process when I found my handwritten notes from the book, Index to the Recorded Kentucky Wills to 1851: The Testators. It appears that I transcribed the information for all of the Crawfords. Curious about the contents of some of these early wills, I used FamilySearch to locate the 1805 will for David Crawford.

This will names the children, gives the married name of the daughters, identifies some slaves and identifies several pieces of land. Based on the information in the will, I believe this will is for David Crawford IV whose FamilySearch ID is L55C-CW6.

Another James Crawford

I thought I had figured out those James Crawfords who appear on multiple family trees with intermingled records and families. To my surprise, I have found another one in Fleming County, Kentucky. James, the husband of Sarah Vansandt, died in May 1836. This is the James Crawford I already knew about.

When I located the will of James Crawford, I found the will of another James Crawford dated September 1836. This James Crawford was the husband of Elizabeth D. Crawford, daughter of Mrs. Stockton. Not only are there TWO James Crawfords in Fleming County, Kentucky, but they both die in 1836!
